The MCS Foundation, founded by Richard van der Knaap, is a charitable organization with a dedicated mission to provide financial support to charities and not-for-profit organizations that help underprivileged and disadvantaged children. The foundation’s core focus is on enabling these children to access learning opportunities and the essential support needed to overcome various barriers, such as poverty, neglect, abuse, and hunger.

Richard, originally from South Africa, moved to the UK in 1973 and enjoyed a successful career in business. Driven by a desire to give back to the community and address the inequalities he observed, particularly among children and young people, he established the MCS Foundation. Richard recognized that many children face significant challenges due to their country of origin, financial status, disability or culture, and he sought to create an organization that would help bridge these gaps.

Funded by MCS Rental Software Ltd, a company also founded by Richard, the foundation operates with no paid employees, ensuring that all funds are directed towards helping children. Richard has committed to donating 10% of the company’s profits annually, and the foundation has already contributed over £300,000 to children’s charities in England, Kenya, South Africa, Ukraine, and Australia.

The MCS Foundation is governed by a group of five trustees, including Richard, his wife Mona, daughter Cherry, son Guy, and Guy’s wife Miriam and does not have any paid employees. The foundation also carefully selects charities with low administrative costs to maximize the impact of its donations. By supporting educational opportunities and essential needs for disadvantaged children, the MCS Foundation aims to create lasting positive change in their lives and communities.
